Amir Khan Defeats Samuel Vargas Despite Second Round Knockdown – Saturday, September 8. Former world champion Amir “King” Khan (33-4-0, 20 KOs) faced Colombia’s Samuel Vargas (29-4-2, 14 KOs) in a show presented by Eddie Hearn and the Matchroom Boxing at the Arena Birmingham, England.
It was a good fight. Khan knocked Vargas down twice (round 2 and 3). Vargas shockingly dropped Khan in the 2nd round, and had him out on his feet at the end of the 10th round, but in the end Khan got the victory via unanimous decision with judges’ scores of 119-108, 119-109 and 118-110.
After the match, Eddie Hearn said: “It’s now or never for the Kell Brook fight. If it doesn’t happen next, it’ll never happen”, but Khan has his sights set on Manny Pacquiao: “There’s a massive demand but the only fight that works for me over Kell Brook is Manny Pacquiao. That’s my No. 1,” Amir said.
