Latin Prospect Watch With Diego Morilla (Spain) – In this second installment, we are once again joined by our Latin American correspondent Diego Morilla to look at the top three “prospects” from Spain.

Spain has had a rise in the public’s interest in the pugilistic arts this century. That interest was partially fueled by the appearance of transplanted Argentinian fighter and former world middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. More recently Spain’s Kiko Martinez held the IBF world title in the super bantamweight division through several title defenses before falling to England’s Scott Quigg.

Check out Morilla’s “scoop” on the following three up and coming fighters from the territory of Spain to keep an eye on:

#1 Kerman Lejarraga (24-0) – The young Basque recently captured Spain’s welterweight title in a grudge bout on his home turf. He has gone a workmanlike 5-0 in 2017 including a June win in his United States debut. The WBA currently ranks him #6 in the welterweight division.

Sergio Garcia (25-0) – 3-0 thus far in 2017, the 25-year-old super welterweight is awaiting his first fight outside of Spain. He holds a WBC Silver title which he has stepped up and defended and he is reported to be targeting a European belt in the near future.

Jon Fernandez (14-0) – Morilla labeled Fernandez the “blue chipper” of the bunch and at 22 years old he would appear to have the most upside. He operates in the super featherweight division and therefore he may beat the two others on this list to a world title shot.  Unlike his counterparts whose early resume is home-bred, Fernandez has already put in three appearances in the United States, working with promoter Lou DiBella and his DiBella Entertainment operation.
