The 24-year-old Angelo Leo remained undefeated tonight and improved his record to 14-0, with 8 KOs. Leo was featured as the co-main event vs Filipino veteran Glenn Porras (31-8, 19 KOs) in a super bantamweight fight on tonight’s Sin City Showdown card at Sam’s Town, hosted by Mayweather Promotions.
Leo won by an impressive knockout @1:37 of the first round. Porras seemed to struggle to keep pace with Leo’s speed, and Leo landed his signature punch, a vicious left hook to the body. Angelo was proud of his performance tonight, in which he faced his first southpaw opponent. Porras, whose record went to said that the body shot from Leo shocked him, and has inspired him to get back into the gym and strengthen his body.
Angelo “El Chinito” Leo is originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Leo was inspired at the age of eight, after seeing all of the world champions in his father’s boxing magazines, to one today become a world champion like Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, and Floyd Mayweather. Leo’s father has been both his manager and trainer. They relocated to Las Vegas and signed with Mayweather promotions a year ago. Leo credits his hard work, dedication, and life’s lessons for shaping him into the fighter that he is today.
Boxing Channel briefly interviewed Angelo after tonight’s fight. They discuss the fighter’s performance, what it’s like to have your father as your trainer, and what Angelo’s thoughts and goals are for the future.
