Joseph Parker Defends WBO Heavyweight Belt This Sat – This Saturday night in far off Manukau City, New Zealand, WBO world heavyweight champion Joseph Parker makes the first defense of the title he captured in December of 2016 when he won a slim UD victory over Andy Ruiz Jr.
The 25-year-old Parker (22-0) is a native of New Zealand and he is the country’s first world heavyweight champion. He is the main draw in this fight but to truly come out on the world level Parker is going to need to get by Razvan Cojanu (16-2). Cojanu took the fight on short notice and is currently ranked #14 by the WBO.

The originally scheduled opponent for Parker’s first title defense was set to be British heavyweight Hughie Fury, the younger cousin of Tyson Fury, but he pulled out on two weeks notice due to a back injury. In Cojanu, Parker’s team found a taller fighter like Fury so perhaps their training specifically for a taller man may yet be useful. Check out our TBC report for more details on the card.
