Lucas Browne Saga – Australian Heavyweight Lucas Browne is back in the news again, and once again the ugly specter of steroid and PED use has come up around the undefeated contender.
The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association announced earlier on Tuesday, November 22nd, that Browne had been tested recently in his native Australia and that he had a positive result for ostarine, a drug on VADA’s banned substances list. The result casts into doubt the proposed match with American Shannon Briggs that would have been for the vacant WBA world heavyweight title.
Lucas Browne Saga
This is not the first time Browne has been associated with PED use. He was stripped and suspended by the WBA of their world title when he tested positive for clenbuterol after his March 5th match with then champion Ruslan Chagaev.
Browne mounted a vigorous defense that eventually led to a WBA ruling that it was “unlikely” Browne had used clenbuterol knowingly.
Though it is too early in the process for any official rulings by the WBA, a second positive test will certainly make some of Browne’s supporters think twice. No official word from the Browne camp.
