Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn Official For Apr 23 – WBO world welterweight titleholder Manny Pacquiao has scheduled his next title defense in Australia for Sunday, April 23nd (Saturday night in the USA) as the Filipino superstar appears ready to embark on promoter Bob Arum’s proposed world tour for 2017.
Horn, 28 years old, is a 2012 Olympian out of Brisbane, Australia who turned professional after the London Games and has run his pro mark to 16-0-1. He has scored a slew of regional titles in his young career fighting in Australia and New Zealand, but his most recognizable opponent on the world scene is veteran Randall Bailey (46-9). Bailey, known as the “Knock Out King” was 41 years old at the time, but he dropped Horn during their fight. Horn weathered the adversity and got up to end the fight in the seventh round. Whether that is enough experience to ready Horn to face Pacquiao remains to be seen, however Horn must have lucrative backing to lure Arum and his Filipino superstar “Down Under.” At 5’9″, Horn will have a more than three inch height advantage over Pac-man, but the fight will almost certainly see Horn open as a major underdog.
Horn last fought on December 10th when he defeated Ali Funeka on the undercard of heavyweight Joseph Parker’s WBO world title victory over Arum charge Andy Ruiz Jr. The 85-year-old Arum accompanied Ruiz Jr to New Zealand for that fight, so look no further back than December to see where the idea for this bout was conceived.

The venue is yet to be announced, and how the fight will be distributed in the United States remains up in the air. The finalizing of the Horn fight was accompanied by rumors that Pacquiao may also be looking to face Kell Brook in England during 2017, giving further credence to Arum’s declaration of a Pacquiao world tour for 2017 as the legendary Filipino fighter comes to the end of his illustrious career.
