On Saturday night’s Sin City Showdown event at Sam’s Town, Rolando Romero (6-0, 5KOs) bested Dieumerci Nzau (11-6, 8 KOs). Romero kept his perfect record intact, claiming his sixth victory and fifth knock out. The fight ended @1:17 of the first round when Romero knocked Nzau unconscious.
Rolando is better known as “Rollies” to his family and friends. His father, a well-respected fighter out of Cuba and former three-time national champion, encouraged his son to box. Rolando finally started to take the sport seriously when he turned 18. He had a short amateur career of only 45 fights before signing to Mayweather Promotions two years ago. He is a vicious body puncher with power in both hands. Romero remains focused and dedicated as he looks forward to more opportunities to showcase his talent in 2018.
Boxing Channel spoke with Romero after the fight, asking the lightweight prospect what his thoughts are about his performance tonight and also his opponent Nzau. Rolando talks to us about his fighting style and explains that he has much more in store for us. He mentions a possible upcoming fight before the end of the year and thanks Mayweather for his support.
