Santana definitely has a great opportunity. As I have said before, of all the opponents on this card he has by far the best opportunity to at least make things interesting.

The situation Santana is in is similar to the one Jerry Belmontes was in a few months ago when Belmontes was facing Omar Figueora. Belmontes was coming off a loss to Francisco Vargas and it appeared his career as a contender might be over. But Figueora needed a confidence booster after some time off and Belmontes was thought to be a very safe opponent for him. It did not turn out that way as Belmontes rose to the occasion and fought the best fight of his career. Like many people who watched that fight, I fight Belmontes won.

Anyway to Edgar Santana. He had a loss a few years ago deemed at that time a bad one to Manuel Perez. The fight was on ESPN2 and with a win Santana seemed poised for a bigger fight later that year. Perez does not have a good record and it appeared to be more or less a showcase for Santana.

Those who know the sport know Perez can fight despite the record. And Perez beat Santana that night. Many deemed it a bad loss and wrote Santana off entirely.

Santana wins three fights afterwards and with Peterson's people looking for a soft touch he gets the call and unexpected opportunity.

Santana can fight. I am not saying I am predicting him to win but I would not be at all shocked if he pulled a Belmontes here and fights the fight of his life against Peterson. If you are looking for a potential upset on this card, this is the fight. I think at the very least Peterson won't walk all over Santana and be given some resistance.
