Evgeny Gradovich, known as “The Mexican Russian”, is set to start of his 2016 campaign this Saturday, January 9th in Valencia, Spain. Gradovich, whose overall record stands at (20-1-1) is making his second appearance since his May of 2015 loss to England's Lee Selby that saw him drop his IBF World Featherweight title on a technical decision after 8 rounds in what was his fourth title defense. The fight was stopped on a cut and Gradovich was way behind on the judge's cards.

Gradovich faces veteran Jesus Galicia, who has a (13-8-1) record in a match in which the Russian fighter is a huge favorite. Gradovich is scheduled to face Nonito Donaire on April 23rd for the WBO World title at Super Bantamweight, so this is considered a tune-up fight for Gradovich.

The card is co-promoted by Yuri Fedorov and Elvira Bonias and takes place at the Centro Deportivo Boxing Unitres in Picanya, Spain. Matchmaker Andrey Tokarev has four matches planned in all, with the theme of the show being to showcase Russian talent.

Veteran Aslabek Kozaev (26-2-1) takes on Renald Garrido, who is (15-12-1). Kozaev is also looking to bounce back as he is (1-2) in his last three fights and he has lost both his fights in the United States in the last two years.

The card also counts on the debut of Super Welterweight prospect Sergey Shigashev, who faces trial horse Ivan Grynuk (7-5-1) in a six round bout. Undefeated Light Heavyweight Sergey Ekimov (13-0) is awaiting an opponent for what will be his debut fight outside of Russia.

This January 9th in Spain, the theme is “The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming” as former IBF Featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich leads the way. If your anywhere near Valencia, live boxing is the way to go, and you always have the Boxing Channel right here for results.
