Gassiev vs Dorticos – WBSS Delivers A War – The IBF and WBA world titles in the cruiserweight division are going home with Murat Gassiev after he stopped Yunier Dorticos in the 12th round of a furious contest.

The bout was the last semifinal bout of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament and a war was expected and delivered. Dorticos was a slight underdog heading into the fight but he fought like he did not believe it and what resulted was that a lot of questions about Gassiev were answered. Gassiev fought backing up at times and with his back to the ropes for basically the first time and he showed a depth of technique we had not seen from before. In the end, his furious rush in the final round was enough to take out Dorticos

More will be expected of Gassiev as he moves on to take on Oleksandr Usyk in the tournament finals. The match is set for May 11th in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and the four major world titles at 200 pounds are in play and set to go home with the winner. Most of the tournament has been fought outside the United States and US television has ignored the WBSS. Hopefully a deal can be struck to air the finals in the United States.
