Groves vs Eubank Jr – British Super Fight is Saturday – This Saturday night in Manchester sees super middleweights George Groves and Chris Eubank Jr clash to open the WBSS tournament semifinals. Groves holds the WBA world title at 168 pounds and he is putting his belt on the line against Eubank Jr, a hungry second generation fighter who fancies himself heading to the top of the boxing world.
Groves won his world title last year in his fourth stab at a world title and will be making his second defense. In the tournament’s opening round he put down challenger Jamie Cox after being pressured a bit by Cox’s aggression. In his opening round bout, Eubank made short work of previously unbeaten Avni Yildirim in Germany. Three British title fights provide the main support for the main event this Saturday.
The second tournament quarterfinal comes to us next week as the WBSS closes out the semifinals in Germany as England’s Callum Smith travels to face veteran former champion Juergen Braehmer. The tournament finals are expected for the May time frame.
