Linares Finishes High Altitude Training Camp For Lomachenko – Jorge “El Niño de Oro” Linares (44-3-0, 27 KOs) will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) title against Vasily “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (10-1-0, 8 KOs) on Saturday, May 12, at Madison Square Garden. Linares vs. Lomachenko will be televised live and exclusively at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.
Our man Marcelino Castillo talked to Linares as he was preparing for this fight at the Mount Charleston in Vegas. This is what he has to say about his training camp:
“The toughest part has already been done, now we are looking for speed, strength, combinations and also we are trying to define our strategy, this is something we are doing very well”.
“Preparing at Mount Charleston (8,241 ft) has been very good for me, my energy has been improving, my endurance, my stamina and my oxygen is excellent, this is one of the reasons I like to train here, the altitude. The fight will be in New York, at sea level and that will give me the advantage”
“Always the hard work, giving the extra mile, you have to play with your mind. You get tired and exhausted, you want to stop and not keep going, but you can’t give up psychologically. Everything is working out very good, I’m motivated and grateful”
This week the VADA team visited Linares. “Thursday people from VADA were here, I’m grateful, this is what you have to do as a boxer, stay clean and healthy. There is nothing better than traning under natural conditions, as it should be. If you look for an advantage you ended up getting nothing.”
