At last the wait is over. The fight for the lightweight supremacy will take place when Venezuela’s Jorge “El Niño de Oro” Linares (44-3-0, 27 KOs) battles Ukraine’s Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (10-1-0, 8 KOs) for the WBA world lightweight title. The fight will take place on May 12th at Madison Square Garden.
Promoters involved in the event, Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar de la Hoya and Top Rank’s Bob Arum, haven’t made the fight official yet; fans hope the announcement will come soon.
Many people think Linares will be a real challenge for Lomachenko, the Venezuelan is confident on his skills to face this difficult task.
Originally the match would be air May 12th by HBO, but the cable company had the replay of the Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez rematch scheduled on that same date, so the fight will be broadcast by ESPN.
Linares is in Japan training for the match. Meanwhile, Lomachenko is back on U.S. soil to start his camp.
