Lotierzo Talks About Canelo’s Positive P.E.D. Test – Saturday May 5th (Cinco de Mayo) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, three-time world champion in two weight classes Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) battles undefeated Kazakhstani Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) for the IBF, WBC and WBA world middleweight titles. The world will watch one of the most anticipated rematches in recent memory.
Shocking news came up this past monday that may put the rematch in jeopardy, Canelo Alvarez tested positive for traces of clenbuterol, this substance is an illegal beta-adrenergic agonist used to beef up livestock (before a metabolite was found to be toxic). It is a potent fat loss and muscle preservation agent with side effects. Golden Boy Promotions declared that there were only trace levels of the drug, which are said to be consistent with meat contamination.
Here, our boxing analyst Frank Lotierzo gives his take on this difficult situation.
