WBA interim super lightweight world champion Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (21-4, 7 KOs), of Riverside, Calif., will be making his first title defense, against Jose Benavidez Jr. (21-0, 15 KOs), of Phoenix, AZ on Saturday, December 13, at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing®, beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

It's a shame that I agree with RG, because Mauricio could be setting himself up for that robbery. I hope not, I think El Maestro can win this one and I think he's hungry for the win. It should be good.

Garcia is never entering the ring again with Herrera. I think that is pretty obvious.

If, and this is a big if, Herrera gets by Benevides then I think HBO pushes to make the Provodnikov rematch for the spring of 2015 on an HBO Boxing After Dark show. Lets face it, not a lot of fighters are willing to fight either man though both are willing to fight anyone. That was part of Provodnikov's issue with getting back on HBO later this year, just no quality opponents. A Herrera win on HBO against a very good prospect and already given his strong 2014 campaign would set the table for the rematch.
