Oscar Valdez Talks To The Boxing Channel – WBO world featherweight champion Oscar Valdez (22-0) is preparing for his next title defense, scheduled for September 22nd against undefeated Genesis Servania (29-0). For Valdez, the fight will be the third defense of the title he won back in July of 2016 when he grabbed the vacated belt with a win over Matias Rueda of Argentina.
Servania is a 26 year old out of the Philippines and though he has fought in far off places such as Dubai and Macao, he will be making his stateside debut against Valdez. WIth twelve KO’s in 29 fights, he doesn’t have the firepower of Valdez, at least on paper. Valdez has stopped 19 of his 22 opponents inside the distance.
Promoter Bob Arum is putting on a double header with two world title fights on September 22nd at the Convention Center in Tucson, Arizona. Arum has been developing Valdez for several years and the young fighter out of Nogales, Mexico has tuned into a world champion under Arum’s watchful guidance. Valdez’ fight is the main event and you can catch the fight as part of ESPN’s broadcast. Check local listings for start times.
In this latest TBC segment, our cameraman on the spot Marcelino Castillo caught up with Valdez between training sessions. Check out what Oscar had to say three weeks before his next title defense.
