Ota City Gym Card Set For December 31st – Three world titles are on the line in Tokyo this coming New Year’s Eve as Watanabe Promotions are at the Ota-City Gym.
The main event sees the IBF and WBA world champions at 108 pounds meet in title unification action as Ryochi Taguchi and Milan Melindo meet with both belts on the line. If this fight were in a bigger weight class it would be getting a good bit more attention. Expect both men to fight like the veterans they are.
At flyweight, the WBO world title is being defended by Sho Kimura as he faces the challenge of fellow countryman Toshiyuki Igarashi. The minimumweight title is also on the line as champion Hiroto Kyoguchi takes on the experienced Carlos Buitrago.
Japan’s New Year’s eve festivities have included boxing and other types of fight shows as part of the party for the past two decades. Last year, three fight shows in Japan saw seven world titles defended. One of those fights saw long-time WBA super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama lose his belt to Jezreel Corrales after being Japanese boxing’s main attraction during the holidays for the past half decade.
