Also of note from the Reunion Islands, former WBA and IBF featherweight world titleholder Yuriorkis Gamboa did not fight on Friday as originally scheduled. Gamboa was scheduled to face Malcolm Klassen with a vacant WBA international title on the line. Gamboa used social media to break the news. Word is that Klassen failed a test for banned substances.
Gamboa’s post translated from the Spanish.
I’m sorry I was unable to gift my fans with what I have owed them for a long time. I prepared as I should in Las Vegas under coach Salas. I was mentally ready to give my all this fight.
Sometimes life hands you lemon, I’ll make lemonade and will remain focused because I still have a lot to do in this sport.
I owe you one. Happy Holidays to everyone and remember that together we are all stronger.
Congratulations to my brother Sullivan Barrera in his big victory last night. Very proud of you “Yunta.”
