Brandon Rios scored a technical knockout win over Mike Alvarado last October 13 in what was one of the best and most brutal bouts of 2012 and they pair will meet up again at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas for a rematch and the interim WBO Light Welterweight title. The fight can be seen March 30 on HBO.

Rio vs. Alvarado I Brandon Rios scored a technical knockout in the 7th round of the first matchup against Mike Alvarado at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA to win the WBO Latino Light Welterweight title. Rios was going to fight Manny Pacquiao but Pacquiao suffered a knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez which made a matchup with Rios nonsensical. The first fight between Rios and Alvarado was so well received that a rematch made the most sense as it answered public demand. The first fight was so outstanding and classic that no other possibilities were considered once Pacquiao went down to defeat. The first matchup was nominated for fight of the year and both boxers were undefeated at the time. Two of the judges had the fight scored even before the fight was stopped in the seventh round with Rios getting the TKO victory.

The first matchup of Rio vs. Alvarado ignited long time boxing fans passion for the fight game which has suffered from the past decade plus of a loss of interest from the general public. What makes the rematch so highly anticipated with the boxing odds is that both fighters were aggressive and on the attack throwing haymakers throughout the bout.

There is concern that Rios may feel let down at not getting to fight Pacquiao, which would have been a better payday. But Rios also came to respect Alvarado after that first titanic tilt. Rios comes into this fight unbeaten at 31-0-1 with 23 knockouts while Alvarado is 33-1 with 23 knockouts.
