TBC Talks To Prospect Teofimo Lopez – Lightweight prospect Teofimo Lopez is preparing for his next fight on February 3rd in Texas and in this latest TBC segment he talks with our roving cameraman Marcelino Castillo.
The 20-year-old Lopez, born in Brooklyn, represented Honduras, the birthplace of his parents, at the 2016 Summer Olympics and he signed with Top Rank upon turning pro. Top Rank signed a group of fighters after the 2016 Olympics, including Ireland’s Michael Conlan and Shakur Stevenson of the United States. Lopez enjoys a lower profile than the two aforementioned TR signees. He has been working hard, going 7-0 since joining the professional ranks.
Lopez is scheduled to make his 2018 debut in February when he faces veteran John Delperdang (10-4). The bout is the first scheduled at eight rounds for Lopez in his short career and therefore represents a step up.
The February 3rd card in Corpus Christi is topped by two world title fights as IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas faces Israel Gonzalez and WBO world super middleweight champion Gilberto Ramirez faces undefeated Habib Ahmed. Check your local listings for start times on ESPN.
