Usyk vs Briedis – WBSS Quick Results From Riga – The World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament semifinals kicked off in Latvia as Oleksandr Usyk faced off against Mairis Briedis.
The match pitted the undefeated WBC and WBO world cruiserweight champions in a title unification bout. In the early going the match took on a methodical tone as Briedis and Usyk exchanged at a relatively even pace. Slowly put surely, Usyk picked up the pace and his precision allowed him to wear down Briedis, who hung tough and never stopped fighting. There were no knockdowns and neither man had his opponent in any real danger over the 12 rounds. At the end of the day the judges returned scorecards of (114-114, 115-113, 115-113) to give Usyk the razor-thin majority decision win.

Usyk will now wait to see whether his next opponent is Murat Gassiev vs Yunier Dorticos. That will be determined next week when Gassiev and Dorticos meet in Sochi, Russia, in another title unification fight.
