Usyk vs Briedis Weigh-in Results From Riga – The opening semi-final bout of the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament is official for Saturday night in Riga.
Both Mairis Briedis and Oleksandr Usyk stepped on the scales Friday evening to make their fight official and both men came in under the 200-pound cruiserweight limit. Both men are putting world titles on the line in a title unification bout here as well since Briedis holds the WBC belt and Usyk the WBO version.
The WBSS kicked off their cruiserweight tournament in September of last year and both Briedis and Usyk are here based on wins in the quarterfinal round. Usyk dispatched veteran Marco Huck while Briedis outpointed former heavyweight Mike Perez. The winner of Saturday”s bout advances to the tournament finals expected in May. There, they will meet the winner of next week’s second semifinal between Murat Gassiev and Yunier Dorticos. Gassiev and Dorticos hold the IBF and WBA world titles respectively, meaning that the tournament winner will have unified all the major world titles in the weight class. Usyk and Briedis decide who takes the next step this Saturday night.
