WBA Championship Committee Issues Fight Requests – Earlier this week the World Boxing Association issued fight requests. If an agreement by the two parties cannot be reached by a designated date, the WBA sends the fight to a “purse bid.”

In the 140-pound Super Lightweight division, Rances Barthelemy (26-0, 13 KOs) of Las Vegas via Cuba is ranked #1 and  Belorussian Kiryl Relikh (21-2, 19 KOs) is ranked #2. The pair have 30 days to negotiate before going to a purse bid. This is for the WBA belt recently vacated by Terence Crawford.

In the Super Featherweight category, the WBA Championship Committee asked current titleholder Alberto Machado (19-0, 16 KOs) of Puerto Rico to negotiate a fight with the top contender Rafael Mensah (31-0, 23 KOs) of Ghana.

The vacant WBA welterweight title could be contested by Tewa Kiram (38-0, 28 KOs) of Thailand who owns the number one ranking, and Argentina’s Lucas Matthysse (38-4, 35 KOs) who is ranked third.

More news sees  the WBA flyweight title declared vacant after champion Kazuto Ioka of Japan dropped the belt. The championship committee may name two men to meet and fill the vacant belt at their next meeting.
