Cotto Tops Kamegai To Grab WBO Crown – Last night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto captured the vacant WBO world 154-pound title with a strong unanimous decision victory over Japan’s Yoshihiro Kamegai.  The 36-year-old Cotto was returning after a layoff of nearly two years but his fan base did not seem to miss a beat as he filled the StubHub with 10,000 fans chanting “Cotto.”

In co-feature world title action, WBC super bantamweight champion Rey Vargas put together a strong performance from finish to end in outdistancing a game Ronny Rios. At the end of the day, Vargas moved his record to a perfect 30-0 via scores of 118-110, 118-110 and 115-113.
