Saturday September 22 saw the return of Eddie Hearn and The Matchroom Boxing with another world title fight in the “Big Guys” Division. England’s superstar Anthony “AJ” Joshua (22-0-0, 21 KOs) defended his WBC/WBO/IBF world heavyweight titles against Russia’s Alexander Povetkin (34-2-0, 24 KOs) at the Wembley Stadium, London, England.
Fighting in his hometown in front of nearly 85,000 rabid fans, Joshua scored a close victory against mandatory opponent Alexander Povetkin. In round seven, “AJ” landed a devastating combination of punches which sent the Russian to the canvas.
Povetkin is stopped for the first time in his career. Tough opponent though, he just couldn’t deal with Joshua’s power.
