Shawn Porter Defeats Danny Garcia to Take WBC Welterweight Title – Welterweight stars and former 147-pound titleholders Danny “Swift” Garcia and “Showtime” Shawn Porter battled for the vacant WBC Welterweight World Championship on Showtime, Saturday September 8 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from Barclays Center.
Porter (29-2-1, 17 KOs) became a world champion for the second time in his career Saturday night, winning the WBC’s vacant 147-pound title with a unanimous decision win over Danny Garcia (34-2, 20 KOs) with scorecards of 116-112 and 115-113 x2.
In the co-main event Yordenis Ugas (23-3-0, 11 KOs) defeats Cesar Barrionuevo (34-4-2, 24 KOs) in a WBC welterweight title eliminator by 12-round unanimous decision.
In a great showcase, Adam Kownacki (18-0, 15 KOs) stays unbeaten with unanimous decision win over former champion Charles Martin (25-2-1, 23 KOs).
