Canelo vs Golovkin Rematch Is Official – A rematch for one the most anticipated matches in years is official. The fight, which will take place on “Cinco de Mayo” (May 5th), sees three-time world champion in two weight classes Saul “Canelo” Alvarez facing WBC/IBF/WBA world champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin with all the titles on the line.
In September of 2017, Canelo and GGG battled in front of a sold out crowd of 22,358. Golovkin and Alvarez fought to a split draw (118–110 Alvarez, 115–113 Golovkin, and 114–114). The vast majority of observers felt that Golovkin had won a narrow, closely contested fight. Despite the controversy, several mainstream media outlets referred to the bout as a “classic”.
Canelo vs. Golovkin II is a 12-round fight for the middleweight championship of the world presented by Golden Boy Promotions and GGG Promotions. The location of the event will be The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
