Matthew “Mack the Knife” Macklin is an Irish-British former professional prizefighter with a record of 35-6, with 22 KOs. He actively fought for fifteen years, from 2001-2016. He held the Irish title, the British title, and the European title. He also challenged for the WBA, WBC, and IBO middleweight world titles. He won the vacant WBC International light-middleweight title in October of 2015 and the vacant IBF Inter-Continental Middleweight Title in April of 2016.
While still fighting, Macklin co-founded MTK Global, a management company for over 150 boxers, involving themselves in all aspects of a fighter’s career, including development, legal, media, endorsements, and sponsorships. He had opened a gym in Marbella, Spain and organized a few training camps there. He credits the impressive gym, great location, and positive word of mouth with helping to get the first few fighters signed. The business expanded and grew rapidly. The company was later sold, and Macklin remained on the board as an advisor. Currently, Macklin works as a pundit for Sky Sports.
Today, Matthew took some time out to talk with Boxing Channel. He discusses his thoughts on the Usyk v Bellew fight, strategies for the opponents, his prediction for the outcome of the fight, and if he thinks about the UK’s current role in boxing.
