WBO’S 31st Convention in Panama: Kosei Tanaka Interview
Oct 30 2018 11:50 PM

Boxing Channel correspondent Marcelino Castillo is here at the WBO convention in Panama City, Panama. He takes this opportunity to sit down with Kosei Tanaka (1200, 7 KOs) and his translator for a brief interview.

Tanaka is a three-weight world champion, holding the WBO titles for minimumweight, junior-flyweight, and flyweight. In September, with his victory over Sho Kimure for the flyweight title, he also tied Vasyl Lomachenko as the fastest boxer to date to win titles in three divisions. He accomplished this feat in just twelve bouts.

Marcelino asks Tanaka about his first trip to Panama and Central America, his defense of the belt, the fighter’s goals and aspirations for the future, the role that Japanese fighters are currently playing in boxing, and Tanaka’s desire to fight in front of a global audience.

Other questions Marcelino has for Tanaka are as follows:

What are your future travel plans, do you plan on fighting outside of Japan?

Are you considering fighting for other belts and a possible unification?

What opponents are in your future,

How is life different now that you’re a champion?

What is the key to staying focused and driven?

Are you satisfied at this stage of your career?

What are your thoughts on Naoya Inoue?
